Going Further

Once you have attended the club on six occasions you are asked to join, this is for insurance purposes. There will be no immediate pressure on you to buy a bow, although it would at this stage probably be wise to start accumulating some of the smaller items of equipment. E.g. a decent tab, a bracer & a quiver. Again it must be emphasized on no account consider buying anything without the advice of your coach. Obviously you cannot keep shooting club equipment forever, as it will be required for other beginners, so start saving.

You will probably progress on to a composite Recurve or compound bow depending on your own inclination. With luck your coach may know of some decent second hand equipment which would suit you. Be careful with this, you may get a bargain, you may get a pig in a poke. Some older bows may look fine at the time to all parties, but remember they carry no guarantees.

If nothing is forthcoming from the second hand market you will have to order by mail or face a long journey to England to find a fully stocked archery specialist. Although it is possible to spend an absolute fortune, it should be possible to buy some decent basic equipment from around £150. This is basic but it would allow you to enter competitions and shoot to a reasonable standard, and at the end of the day is easily sellable when you decide to upgrade.
